Two more renewable projects in planning
Is the Bowen Basin on track to being a renewable energy hotspot (with more fertile sheep)?
Two major renewable energy projects in Central Queensland are out for public comment this week, one at Biloela near the Callide Power station and the other at Theodore - two towns synonymous with coal mining.
Edify Energy is seeking environmental approval to build the Callide Solar Power Station project, which - if approved - will establish a 200 MW solar farm with a 200 MW/800 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) North-east of Biloela adjacent to the existing power station.
The proponent has completed the planning and some environmental assessments for this project, with development approval from the Banana Shire Council in October 2023.
The development is expected to provide power to the broader Banana Shire and Central Queensland region via the Callide Power Station and into the National Electricity Market’s transmission network.
