Anglo continues its dominance
Moranbah North and Grosvenor Mines winners at 61st underground rescue event
Anglo American’s Moranbah North and Grosvenor mines have clinched the first and second place titles, respectively, at the 61st Australian Underground Coal Mines Rescue Competition, hosted this year by BMA at the Broadmeadows mine.
The win for the Moranbah North team is an impressive follow-up to their 2024 national win and their second-place finish to sister mine Grosvenor in 2023.
“The mine rescue team’s win was another outstanding achievement, and a testament to their professionalism, preparation and commitment to safety”, Paul Stephan, Moranbah North Mine general manager, said.
Mine rescue competitions are a crucial part of industry training and preparedness, as they test a team’s ability to respond to simulated emergencies in high-pressure environments. The competitions typically involve a series of challenging scenarios and exercises that replicate real-life mining emergencies, requiring hazard awareness, underground search and rescue, first Aid, firefighting, and a range of other skills.
Teams are assessed on their technical skills, knowledge, teamwork, communication, discipline, courage, and the ability to approach scenarios safely, calmly, and professionally
